BOX MAKERS ARTIFICIALLY CREATE LARGE-SCALE ORDERING

The sheets that the box plant converts into boxes, are produced on a corrugator. A corrugator is a costly, large scale operation that is crewed by six skilled technicians and a dozen semi-skilled workers. Corrugators are designed to run at very high speeds so slowing down to change orders and ramping-up after each order change lowers productivity. Consequently, the sheet runner rewards the box plant with lower prices for very large orders and they charge a hefty set-up fee for smaller orders. Costly.

COMPANIES JUGGLE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF INVENTORY

Corrugated boxes are ordered according to an economic quantity which is calculated by the company’s software system based on forecasted demand. Boxes are ordered to arrive well ahead of the date they will be needed and are stored in a warehouse or on the factory floor. Boxes that are rarely used are stored in inventory by the supplier and are released the day before they are needed. This Just-in-Time system works well, but isn’t fool proof. The reliability of the pack line depends on the accuracy of the requisition report, the accuracy of the supplier’s inventory, the reliability of the trucking company, and the ability of the material handling group. In the case where the vendor holds the inventory for daily deliveries, the customer pays a premium. Inefficient.

FANFOLD CORRUGATED IS DELIVERED DIRECTLY TO YOUR PLANT

The fanfold is manufactured on one of our high-speed corrugators and is shipped directly to your plant. Since their entire box requirement has been reduced to only a few fanfold widths, Packsize corrugator achieves large-scale production for maximum efficiency and the customer is rewarded with a low price. Since the fanfold can be made into any box, there is no need to forecast demand or run a requisition report. Easy.

BOXES ARE PRODUCED AS NEEDED

The box machine has been ‘right-sized’ so that boxes are made adjacent to the pack line from a continuous sheet of corrugated that is accordion-folded onto a pallet. As each product comes down the mixed-model line, the machine makes a single box to precisely fit the product. There is no need for racking, inventories or continuous material handling. The corrugated ‘fanfold’ is stored directly behind the machine. The machine is Windows based and CNC controlled, so the packers simply flex between the machine and the pack line. Obsolescence and shrinkage are zero and each box fits perfectly. Lean.
